Maybe NewTek added him to their shopping cart *grin* which wouldn't be the worst idea if it means we can have built-in volumetric instancing in LW 9.

Seems to be back up- got on the site this AM.
Does HD Instance is the only plugin for this? They say that price will be $149 until version 2.0. I figure this means that price might increase.
This makes me think if I should pay a little bit more of the double of price for the LW9 upgrade and get Vue5 which has something similar, along some other nice things. Anyone can comment on this?

Compared to Vue, HD_Instance integrates in LW, does anything as advertized and does not crash :D As for now Vue simply does NOT integrate with any other program. Yes, they advertized differently since Vue4Pro, but reality proves otherwise. Their 3rd attempt in doing a better integration is on the horizon (Fusion) so you might try throwing some more $$$ at it. First let's hope their base apps get rocksolid !!!

I have it and it's impressive. You can add a selection of objects to be cloned to a surface's points/surface, align them with the poly normals, follow particle directions, use weight maps to control density of distribution, size, and have random noise on it. You can populate your landscapes with trees without needing vue or have an army marching over hills...And it reflects, refracts and shadows because it's a full volumetric.
I had a scene rendering 5000 5000 poly trees in 1.5 mins. That's 25 million polys in 2min. Not to be sniffed at..
Well, I am planning on making cities landscapes for aerial shots, and was looking to solve my problem with this kind of technology. Would any option be better than the other in my specific case?

Not that I can think of. If you're throwing around a lot of objects, this is the way to go in LW.

Have there been any clues as to what's special about HD Instance 2.0 ?

Only that we've been waiting over a year for it. Maybe if there was more demand he'd get round to updating it.

I think HD_Instance 2.0 wont be a free upgrade, excluding recent buyers.
As far as what would include, I dont have any worries.
Graham has visions and I hope for cool features.

If you buy it on the Safe Harbor site, it's $10 cheaper too.

Are any of you, when bringing up the slider box for the HD Instance color control in the Surface Editor, able to control the sliders in 8.5?
Won't let me select colors or slide the positions anymore...

nthused: No me neither. Won't drag the sliders and crashes LW when you click on the little square that normally brings up the colour requester.

Interesting...mine doesn't crash.
I wrote to Graham and he knows of the problem as he responded back within one day. Love this plug-in so I hope it's fixed really soon.

Hi everybody! Yeah, I had some server troubled a while back. As for the 8.5 crashing color slider problems, I'm working on it right now :)

Just ordered EdgeFX from SafeHarbor...can't wait to start implementing it. Beats beveling everything, I figure...
Thanks for these great plug-ins, Graham...and for updating HD Instance.
