After a long time, I’ve finally decided to buckle down and make a char in Lightwave. I mainly use LW for logos etc.. for TV shows and ads. This will be completely different to what I am use to so It will be interesting to see how it turns out.

It is a anime/cartoon type char. A super deformed (SD) Kendo fighter.

I have done a quick sketch for a basically layout and have started to model the head.

looks like a good start! i do have a suggestion that may make your life a little easier, and that is to go into your image editor in modeler and go to each of your backdrop images, and under the editing tab, change each of the images brightness to about -0.5 this should bring that bright white from the paper down to a grey and it will make it feel more like a backdrop and not interfere with the sketch color of your polygons! :D now you just watch this not work for you because i've never attempted to give help before haha

also do not forget about the top view, i myself am usually guilty of this and my models look good from the side and front, but the top seems square.. keep it up and i'll be checking back to see where this one goes! good luck!

Heheh thanks for the tip, it made it much easier to see the wireframe.

Here is an update. I restarted again, this time using SubD Way easier.

A little update. I was bored last night and had a choice, do this or watch 'The Sound of Music' on TV.....

Woohoo, Finished my model (I hope)

All I got to do now is Rig it *shudder* this will be interesting as I haven't rigged anything before.

I am having a lot or problems with rigging this.

Basically all I went to rig are the arms, the rest of the body will be static, the head is a separate object.

All the tutorials I have read only deals with rigging the char completely, so I can’t seem to work out how to only rig from the shoulder and down the arm without effecting the rest of the object.

Here is a wireframe of the body.

Red: Is the part I want to move.
Green: These gloves are a separate object (I don’t want them to deform) but parented to the end of the arm

I have also included a rough sketch on what I want the arms to move to.

Hmmm my main problem seems to me after laying out a couple of bones. One from the middle of the body to the sholder joint, then another to the middle of the arm (elbow) and another to the end of the arm. But when I activeate the bones (even only one) my whole model distorts (resizes 10 times it's size and facing another direction)

I have now added Weight maps to my model, for the Upper and lower arm. But I am still having the same problem, but this time the distortion now only effects the weight maps areas

I've been away from LightWave all summer, but if I remember correctly, you need to reset the bone's position before activating it, so that everything is zeroed out. I can't remember the specifics, but I'm sure someone will jump in here.
