This was origionally going to be a very quick and low cost animation. But I ended up haveing so much fun/frustration with hypervoxels and sky tracer that I put several free hrs. into it.
At first I had it blasting lava into the air off the screen, but then decided to tone it down a little. I may put a few fire balls jumping out at the begining.
I forgot to turn on glow (lava) for the render.
I'm not sure about the "smoke ring"... any suggestions for it?

Not sure about the smoke ring, but the rest looks pretty good. I think for the kind of volcanic eruption you are simulating, a few more airborne molten rocks would make it more realistic. As for the smoke/dust I think you have the amount/density about right (maybe a little denser). It would tend to rise rather than settle around the crater, unless you make it a pyroclastic eruption.

I think I'll add a few chunks flying out of it at the begining and then landing in different areas towards the end of the anim.
I wanted the smoke ring to kind of hover for a moment the way a smoke ring rolls over itself befor disapating. I'll work on that over the weekend too.

I like it as well. I see what you were going for with the smoke ring, but it still needs some work...
Another thing regarding the ring... I'd look at tweaking the colours in the smoke, as it seems to be a cool blue colour, whereas the environment it's in, and the lava itself would give it a warmer colour.
Other than that, it's not bad...
Can't wait to see the molten chunks flying out..
