Figured as much as I'm around here I should let people see what little I've done. This is the only project I've ever actually finished, mainly because it's so simple! :o I tend to start things then get a little bored and move on to something else...

And another shot...

Matt,
I'd either slap some more bevels on it, or reduce the smoothing angle as some of the parts look a bit "blobby" to me. Specifically around the end pieces I usually slap a 60deg. smoothing for cubic type objects, keeps the obvious '90 deg' type smoothing away but provides enough for simple detailing.

Just my opinion is all. ;)

EVERYTHING is beveled. This was one great big bevel. All the little protrusions came out looking pretty much like I wanted them to. I wanted is to be really smooth, with no sharp edges. I went through several prototypes and discovered that really functional light sabre would look like crap. I would prefer to wield one with a nice rubberized grib, but the shiny metal just looks soooo much better.

Did you bevel only once before you used the smoothing effect? I found that another approach to deal with that "blobby" problem is to bevel four times as apposed to just once.. The result looks alomost exactly like something that is subpatched. FYI if your interested.

Still, looks good. You can never go wrong with StarWars.:D

Man, those textures could sure use some work.

Matt,
It's just that the little 'box' bevels scream over-smoothing to me.
If they are meant to be like that, fair do's ;)

For me, personally only of course, I'd either taper them and tighten the bevel, or round 'em off - but then, it ain't my model, it's yours, so your vision is what counts! If ya like the result, then it's finished, regardless of what anyone else says. :D

I appreciate the input, not offended or anything. :) I know the texturing could use more work, but I'm actually very happy with the model itself. Below is a link to some of my key inspiration.
