Hi All,
Just getting back into Lightwave w/8.3. (formerly 5.5 user) But I seem to be having a bit of a problem just rendering default content scenes. LW crashes and quits before completing the first pass. I've tried different video cards and drivers and get the same results. I've tried the Matrix abstracts w/ volumetrics, the teapot w/radiosity, and the red & blue ninja content scenes and they all crash before the first pass completes. I'm using the render defaults just to see how they look. The only scenes that render trouble free are the Classic Blade Runner scenes. I've tried leaving the configs alone, as well as deleting them, and getting the same results. :stumped:

Machine Specs;
AMD Athlon 2600+
1.50 GB RAM
ATI Fire GL 128 RAM, currently using ATI Radeon 9550 256 RAM
Windows XP SP2
McAfee anti-virus disabled

Any ideas? (besides getting a Mac, ;) )

hmm,
try to reload all your pluggins.
some of them could be corrupted I guess.

Try a different machine?

Thanks for the suggestions, but I don't have the option of another machine at this time and yes, I've reloaded all the plugins with the same results.
My next guess is it could be a version problem, so I'll try starting with 8.0 and work my way up to 8.3.
There could also be a problem with XP SP2, which not a whole lot of applications are happy with, let alone users, but my OS is SP2 by default installation. Maybe I should regress to Windows 2000? :bangwall:

I'm running 8.3 on XP Professional sp2 without problem here - might be a corrupt install? Try re-installing LW and see if that solves the issue, if you haven't already.

Yep, been there, done that. About 3-4 clean installs, maybe a couple more, I lost track. Here's the error specs of what I keep getting when it crashes.

AppName: lightwav.exe
AppVer: 0.0.0.0
ModName: crender8.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0
Offset: 00033a99

Well, I think I discovered the culprit. I started out at 8.0 and all the trouble content scenes were fully rendering, so I decided to start with the incremental updates. 8.0.1 passed, but after I installed 8.2, that's when the trouble returned. So, I decided tor reinstall 8.0 + content (uninstalling 8.2 update wiped everything! :screwy: ) and just go straight to 8.3. So far, so good and no problems.
Is applying the incrementals necessary? Or can I get away with updating straight to 8.3? Some updates are funny that way and I'm not certain about Newtek.

I updated straight from 8 to 8.3 the last time I did a reinstall, and everything was fine. You shouldn't have a problem doing that.

I think it's basically like reinstalling the application when you install 8.3, I don't remember, some applications are like that others aren't.

Some installations replace some files and add missing content while others remove all old files uninstall old version then install new.

Seems like that crender8.dll might have been corrupt.
