View Full Version : Bug?

This may have been answered before in this forum. However, I can not find anything about it.

When I use the layout, I can not use the modeler. I get an error about atiglxx.dll crashing. I try to turn on the modeler from layout & it crashes.
If I turn on the modeler first & then try to go to the layout, same thing happens, so essentially I can only use one application at a time.
I just purchased LW 8.3. However, this is not the first time this has happened. When I had Inspire3D, this also happened & that was why I decided to use 3dMax. I returned to LW because I like the versatility but I never thought I would get the same "bug". Is there a fix for it, an update I should download or something so I can use both tools rather than shutting down one & opening up the other each time I need the tool?

I use an Intel: centrino (1.7 G), 1 G ram (982 mhz), ATI mobility radeon 9000 graphics card laptop. I have tweaked it so that it runs faster (built for performance) & also runs in classic mode with all "XP" looking & feel type items turned off.

I don't know just a shot in the dark but I have heard of ATI graphics cards being a problem with LW and a fix apparently being to have the correct ATI graphics drivers installed.

You might try a search here for ATI. It is bound to come up with something as it has been discussed often.

Something to check off the list anyway.

I was figuring that it was the driver. However, I have the most current version I can use. Any other suggestions?

Make sure driver is fully uninstalled, reboot and reinstall latest ATI driver.

Yes, an nvidia graphics card. :) After trying the above of course.

Again only a possibility. Most stores such as frys electronics have a 30 day return policy. It might be worth it - advice that comes from much hair pulling with incomapatable devices in the past. But as I said something to check off the list so at least you know that is completely elliminated rather than spinnning your wheels.

.

That is not possible. I have a built in ATI Radeon mobility graphics card. I use a laptop. I guess I will have to live with one or the other... my graphics drivers are the most current for the card.

ATI card usually is not built-in, you can upgrade the video cards in certain laptops, usually the ones with dedicated ATI Mobility graphics cards, I'm deciding myself weither or not to upgrade to a dedicated X300 128MB ATI Mobility vs. the onboard 8MB - 128MB Intel Accelerated Chipset 910GM because right now it's running perfect and the graphics speed on realtime game rendering and Hi-Definition playback is pretty good, the more you add too the more likely the battery is to not last as long.

If you have an ATI graphics card contact the company brand of your laptop and ask what options are available if you can purchase a video card, upgrade the CPU, etc.

If you can do it yourself, read the laptops service manual online, other option is send it back in to company to have them upgrade it, that's much cheaper than having someone come out and do it for atleast $359 more, not including the part.

A PCI Express ATI card I believe runs starting at $99.
