Has anyone experimented with the various options under color correction to get more of a film tone, while keeping the 60i format.

There was a really good article on this a year or so ago in whichever Newtek magazine was still out then...
Basically they recommended lowering the saturation and then shifting the colors for a number of different film processes...
Another thing to do for temporal similarity is to use the TimeStretch function available through the switcher, this can give you a very film like look. Note that it can't be used in VT-Edit, you have to send your video through the switcher to process it with that effect. Luckily, with a good system you can play, process, and record back all at once.
