Saw this linked from another site. It's the first section of an IBM article on how to set up an IT infrastructure for a midsize animation/post facility (using IBM technology, of course). I had seen pieces of this discussed before in different spots, but I'm grooving on the whole systems-engineering overview (I'm weird that way):
Build a digital animation system, Part 1: Understanding the existing infrastructure (http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/web/library/wa-animstudio1/?ca=dgr-lnxw07SFX1).
Just replace all references to "Maya" with "Lightwave", and "Avid" with "VT"
