View Full Version : Bone rigging malfunction...what have I done?

I'm attempting to add motion to a character of mine. He's got an antenna. I made a simple bone rig for him and applied IK. I also made a separate bone chain for his antenna. When I move his body the antenna remains in place, looking very bad. I tried parenting the first bone in the antenna to the last bone in his head and things also got ugly. How can I make his antenna move naturally with the rest of his body?

You did the right thing. Did you have parent in place on(in the Options panel)? This will parent the antennae to the head without moving the antennae. Make sure it's in the right place before you parent it, then parent it with PIP on, and it should be sorted.

I checked the options panel and Parent in Place is on. It is still behaving badly. Naughty character. Perhaps I could attach the scene and object for you to review? I don't know how to do this, however, and I'd need a bit of coaching. Are you game?

Surrealist.

A picture will do. Post it and there are plenty here knowlegdable to help. :)

It really can't be that complex, somthing simple. Did you try to hit r again to reset the bone after you parented? Parent in place actually moves the child item in space relative to the position of the new parent origin thus 'keeping it in place" therefore it would have to have a new rest postion.

Zip the two up together and post a new message. On the Post page look for the Attach Files section and Click the Manage Attachments button. This'll open a window where you can select multiple files and attach them to your post :)

Woo hoo! That r thing worked. You were right, something simple. I did have to parent the antenna to the last bone in my guy's head for it to work though. Thanks so much!
