It`s nothing more than a character. Although I really like the troll introduced in LOTR, I had a different imagination of trolls. Since I was a hardcore role-player in the 90s, I made several sketches then.

It`s the concept of Karol, based upon a sketch in `94:

Here`s a wireframe shot of him:

And the WIP renders:

Sweet Baby Jesus this is some nice work. The only thing I can say besides "Nice Work" is that you could add some grunge to the textures to break up the uniformity of the scale texture. I know it's not a procedural but it looks that way on the leather and the skin due to the similarity of the map density.
Really nice to see the original concept executed so closely in the model and textures. Bravo.

Thanks guys, you won`t believe, but it`s procedural, 100%. I tried to solve this with basic LW tools, and I`m satisfied with the result. I used weight maps to define softer skin areas (the yellowish, less bumpy parts), and currently I move to the next level. It`s fantastic how flexible surfacing is avail in LW.

See next versions on next week!

That looks good! One thing i would like to point out is...

You've done tons of texturing but you haven't done anything to the eyepatch, was that intentional? If not DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT

Also the legs look a bit too thin for the body, but that could kust be me! Looks great, reminds me of when i was younger and all those fantasy books i used to read!

Currently, I made only the basic texture. Details will be done by hand painted texture, like eye patch, wrinkles, etc.

I made this troll based upon my early (1994) sketch. I redraw the original, and build the model. This was my design, I always imagined trolls like this one, although I do like the LOTR style as well.

Since it`s a spare time project there may be interrupts...as ther is now...
