View Full Version : converting a 3DS object into an "enhanced" LWO object

Hi,

For an upcoming project I received several objects in 3DS format.

As you might know if I import these into LightWave Modeler (7.5b) all the faces of the objects have 3 vertices. There are so many sections on these HiRes objects which can easily be turned into faces with 4 or more vertices which will cut down the polygon count dramatically.

I know there are plugins that do this great (qemLOSS2 and 3rd party ones) but they just reduce the polygon count which in turn causes some quality loss on the object. They don't turn 3 point polys into 4 point polys or higher.
So, as you might have guessed already, I want to turn many 3 point polys into 4 or more point polys. Anyone now of a plugin which does this automatically?

I'm currently using PlanarSelection by Joe Riddle which works great but maybe there's a plugin out there which does all this in a wink of an eye cuz using PlanarSelection on the objects I got (mechanical objects) takes a large amount of time.

thnx in advance.

Trigone

Go to www.flay.com

Be warned.. if your comp is slow.. it will take a long time.. break up the model into sections and place on sepperate layers first.

Cool! Someone confirms it being used! Thanks for that dude! Glad to know it was useful for you...

Also glad you got the solution of using TrigonX.

Cheers!
