Hello All;
I recorded the narriation this afternoon at work for an important video project I'm doing ... using Sound Forge. It worked beautifully and I was able to play it back from within Sound Forge. Then, I try to play back the narriation on TWO separate computers at work (Standalone - Outside of Sound Forge) and both times I got some cryptic error message. Thinking my computers at work were crap, I brought the files home to my Toasater System which was a very powerful and capabable system and the same thing happened ... only this time, the system tried to search for the proper Codec but COULD NOT find it. What's the use of searching if it can't find it ????????????

I tried to load several audio clips into the ToasterEdit and I got a flat line - No Audio.

HELP - How do I find out what Codec to download so my .WAV's that I created in Sound Forge will play back correctly, and will also load into the Toaster ? According to the Sound Forge file requester when I saved files, these were being saved in standard Microsoft .WAV format.

Can someone tell me what Codec I am likely missing so I can go and get it so I can get my Toasteredit Project done ? Also, why these days do so many files that I create require Codec's that I don't have ? And why when my system tries to search for them on the internet does it NEVER, NEVER find them ?

Thanks for any help and advice you can provide.

Tim

As long as they are wav files there shouldn't be a problem.

YOu can always go to the custom button when you are saving and make sure that it is being saved as a uncompressed PCM.

Also Toaster seems to like 48,000 khz at 16bit.

Thanks RomainR;
That was the Key. I loaded a clip into SG and saved it in the new format that you specified and now it works. Question for anyone ... when I resave at a different resolution the system complains that the sound may be changed. Any way to aviod this ? I started with 44,100 KHZ, 24 bit Stereo and I resaved as 48,000 HZ, 16 bit Stereo. Can anyone see a problem with this ? The resaved clip sounds OK but I havn't tried to listed to both unconverted and converted side by side. Also, why won't the Toaster accept a 44,100 HZ, 24 bit audio clip ?

Are you saying that Sound Forge gives the warning? If so, thats normal and just a courtesy message that annoys everyone.

And you know, for most everyone, 16 bit is completly adequate for video production. I was unaware that the VT would not look at a 24 bit signal. I'll have to look at that.

Glad it helped out Tim. SoundForge always warns you when you go from a sample to another. In your case from 44khz to 48khz. As for T[2] reading 24bit audio, I tried a while ago and it didn't work out.

The hardware is only capable of a max of about 19bit audio.
