When following a tutorial on fire using Volumetric lights I was having a problem when redering. Viper would show the flames but when rendering the flames would not show. I then disabled "Ray Trace Shadows" option and my lights came back. I also notice that when I have "Ray Trace Shadows" enabled not only did I lose my flame I would also lose transparancies of my water. What causes this when it is enabled?
Thanks
Dave.
Viper will always give you different results, there are things it cannot show and things that it does not update.
There isn't anything inherent about raytrace shadows that kills transparency or volumetrics, it depends on the scene. You'll have to describe the scene for us, give us all the details like, does the light that is casting the volumetrics also casting a shadow, or is it a different light? Are you trying to get volumetrics through any geometry? Pics would help too.

When preparing the pictures. I cliped the pictures of how everything looked with "Ray Trace Shadows" off and then re-rendered with the setting on and the flame is there now. after lastnight and all morning I could not get it to render with the flame and the "RTS" option enabled, and now it does. But the water still loses it's tranceparency. My guess is that the shadow effect of the water is reducing it trancparency. I'll play with shadows for a while.
Sometimes these things can really make a person want to scream.
Thanks though.
