View Full Version : So Who Would Like MIDI Control of VT??

We have been working on MIDI Control for VT for quite a while now to use in our VJLive software version of VT. I have always wanted tactile control of the Audio Mixer, not having to mouse around to me is priceless on the audio mixer. I also have wanted to have independent DDR control so that I can control each DDR's playback functions without having to depend on Keyboard shortcuts, etc. Then there is the Switcher. Lots of automation can be accomplished via MIDI control of the Switcher.
SO... What is it worth to the rest of the VT world??
MIDI Control is worth $100 to me
MIDI Control is worth $75 to me
MIDI Control is worth $50 to me
MIDI Control is worth $0 to me
Status??
Audio Mixer control is Done.
DDR control is Done.
Switcher Control is 75% done.

To give you an idea of MIDI units that we have tested with VT so far...
The Behringer BCF2000 is perfect for interfacing with the Audio Mixer. It can give you complete control depending on how you setup the MIDI Plugin. Costs around $200.

The Behringer LC2412 is also good for basic control of the levels and you also can output DMX lighting protocol at the same time to intergrate sound, lighting, and video. Only Costs around $225.

This MIDI Controller is around $299 direct from Finland. It will give you tactile control of the DDR interface and you can have multiple units attached. One per DDR or ONE controller per 2 DDRs using the Shift Mode.

This is our baby. The KontrolDJ midi Controller is a unique controller in that we can get both audio and video controller from one surface. Sliders/Knobs for audio volumes and Equalization. More knobs and buttons for controlling Video parameters. We also can use the "CrossFader" and buttons to control the Take bar on the switcher. At $499 it is a good deal when the only limitation is your imagination.

So all you guys that have been wondering for a better way to do things in a Live and YES Post environment... Here it is. What do you think about it?

Ray those are some nice units also. I was primarily thinking of using basic tactile interfaces to control the VT Software. You are thinking more advanced (equals "Costly") than I wanted to propose initially. You are quite right though the Tascam or even the Mackie HUI would be great interfaces for VT.
It is finally all possible now with MIDI control.

We use Tascam FW-1884 in the studio, so interfacing with these would be great. They can use Mackie's HUI, as several other brands can also if needed, might save on some inital development cost.

Audio control would interest me.

Then silly Jim why did you vote $0 ????
In the post situation I can invision using and external hardware interface like the Mackie HUI or the Tascam mentioned above to tweak the audio levels during playback along with controlling the VTEdit timeline.
We will see where this goes and develop accordingly.

Mainly because I think NT should have it in the suite already.
Also, I'm not really even sure that I'd put money into it, even though your top shelf is only $100, I would only use it as a shortcut for my laziness using the audio mixer...... :p
Years ago, I had midi trigger a Mac for graphics and synthesizer sync (don't say it..... ) via timecode from the Flyer. It took a while to set up and tweak, but it all worked OK. Today's huge storage and real time playback makes all of that a relatively moot point, at least in post.

Jef, this looks great and well needed in a live environment.
Keep us posted.

All I can say is wow Jef. MIDI control over audio would be huge. Now my question is will I be able to use my Tascam SX-1 as an interface? It has MIDI in, 4 MIDI outs, MTC in and Word in/out/thru.

Jef, any chance you can make the TriCaster work with MIDI? Or RS-232? This could be big for TriCaster sales.

Yes, Matt we can. But we can't. Newtek's words to me have been that NO 3rd party addons are allowed on the TriCaster. Even installing other software is frowned upon.
I was told that they want the TriCaster to be what it is.

Jef,
Drop me a line as soon as you get Midi control heads working...I have a client who really needs this type of thing for a LIVE situation...to control the VT's audio...I also need tactle macros with it to auto trans things with flying faders to see the fader positions with manual overides..

OK everybody here is the MIDI update.
Dhomas did a fantastic job with this plugin and I really hope he sells a ton.
SO Everyone sitting on the fence... BUY IT!!!
Please support the few 3rd party developers we have for VT products.
I will be glad to make available our preset profiles we use with the Behringer BCF2000 controllers for free. If you would like to buy a bundle of both the Behringer and MIDI plugin then we will offer that for a special price. Email me for details.
