Not even pretending this is an complete list, here are two well regarded 3rd party render controllers, with (at least single node) free versions:
Lightnet (for Windows)
Screamernet Controller (for Mac OS X)
I know there are others, better and worse. Add them to the list!

How much they paying you to convince the masses they should pay for rendering? J/K :)
I have used Lightnet in the past with great results (I have used 15 or so nodes at once). I haven't gotten it to work with 7.5 yet, though. I'll have to keep trying.

They don't pay me anything. I have met the owners, being that they are located close by, and they have pulled my butt out of the fire several times. They render stuff so quickly that I'm able to spend extra time on tweaking the animations. I just wanted to share with the community. Come to think of it, I probably shouldn't tell anyone about http://www.respower.com because more people will show up and I'll have to wait in line. So, forget everything I've said and whatever you do, don't use their service, PLEASE. :)
