AIRWOLF!

I loved that show, and this is a great conversion of the chopper.

Looks great :)

If you want a nice scene of it then imho you could add some water below it, play with reflections and the waves caused by the wind the chopper creates.

could look great.

Excellent model btw ;)

can't be too far from finished, it's gorgeous.

Throw a little dirt in the specular and call it done, man. That's a sweet mesh.

wow! nice!
Such nice reflections! Gradients, Fresnel....HDRI?

Thanks for the compliments.

For the not finished thing, I'm busy creating some spec textures and ofcourse some dirt textures, also I want some more detail into the surface of airwolf. Add some more pins etc.

Also I want to create the Airwolf flying team, for now I have some stand-in pilots for the look. Also something is the interieur and finally add some more extra weapon systems...

Currently I'm working on 3 projects so... I can't update soon, but I am working on some animations. Also I like Raptor's idea of the water scene. But that would need some work, but I am planning to make it!

So thanks so far for the idea's and compliments, and I'd like to hear more great Idea's !!

Hey, how about recreating one of the scenes from Airwolf where an evil villain who is a truly wonderous marksman, fires a pistol from a huge distance away, right into the exhaust type hole on the helicopter! Apparently that was the ONLY weak point on the thing, and he managed to shoot it with one buulet!

You could have the thing spinning and on fire, with bits flying off everywhere! Ooh, alot of work, and exploding that model would be a sin!

Really great modeling!

Hello
The model is great!
But I think the Sky is to dark compared to the ground (you can see it in the reflections). The great thing in LW is that bright things reflect much stronger than darker things. So I would ramp up the luminosity for the sky, to get nice bright highlights.
Otherwise great work. Airwolf was a cool tv- series (even though very unrealistic, but still cool).

i think its the opposite, that the ground is way too blasted out and the sky is kinda cool...like its overcast a little...
maybe brighten the sky a little but definitely change the ground brightness in the reflection!

I'm a little bit confused about your oppinions :) but I think I'll do some test-renders for the look of it.

I'm also a bit short of webspace right now otherwise I could show you guys some airwolf animations, but you'll have to wait for that a bit longer...

That's a great looking model. I always liked the Airwolf shape. I don't know what you're using as reference but I have about 40 pictures of the full size helicopter. I used to live about a block from Jetcopters at the Van Nuys airport, where Airwolf used to be filmed and home of "Santini Air" so I saw it many times and watched the filming of a few episodes. Larry Jolly had his RC version there once which looked great with the scale comparison.

A little Airwolf trivia: Most people think that the helicopter is black and white but it's actually metallic charcoal. The production put shorter rotor blades on the original Bell 222 because they thought it looked better but with the shorter blades and the fabricated body panels it greatly reduced its power and top speed. After the show ended it was converted back into a standard 222 again and sold to a company in Michigan. As I understand it, it finally ended up in Germany where it eventually crashed and was destroyed.

The pics are 800x600 and zipped are 4.1Mbs

Yes your Airwolf model is really cool. The only thing it's missing is a bump map pass of rivits and panels lines.

A pain in the arse but it really adds to the realism.

I'm currently working on the bump maps, as for the dirtmaps, but it's going slow..

But I'll keep ya updated :)

however, the conversion parts are in the hands of a private collector...

I always thought the military would have taken the airwolf design and make thousands of them for the US. I think it would be cool to live near a helicopter hanger. I could listen to those things all day! I'm also going to be getting X-plane with all the hardware sometime next year so I'm hoping there's a download of an Airwolf chopper. I also really like the Bell 206. That's included in the software.

Except for the aerodynamically impossibility of a helicopter flying mach 1... ;)

It was a cool show though and great model.

I think the ground and sky levels look fine.

What type of motion blur are you using on the rotor?

Wow!. I didn't realise how old this thread was. Kinda obvious which motion blur he's using then// :)

Why do you use classic camera? with perspective cam you will not get this banding effect on the propeler…

Possibly because there was no perspective cam in 2003?.. ;)

Hi, i thought let's put down a reaction after 5! years :)

I pulled this object out of the archives a few weeks ago, everything was still as it was except for the surfacing, I lost the reflectionmap i guess, also lightwave has some other render method's right now, so It's hard for me to pull that same image out of the renderengine of lightwave.

I'm also sorry i didn't use the perspective camera, or reallens camera instead of the stupid classic one.. i should have know better back then! ;)

Glad to hear the image is still being appreciated around here, who knows, this might just get me back into this project, the helicopter was all rigged with motionmixer and IK, perfect for an animation, 5 years ago my computer was too slow to do any hard rendering on this object, times have changed, it could be interesting to do some animation now...

thanks for the nice comments :)

Wow. Especially impressive for such an old model. Go on, dig it out and give it some modern day love :)

Otherwise I'll be the only one dragging cheesy 80s series out of the mists of time ;)
