Effects Question

Hello all. My name is John and I am currently working on an animation which involves animating two ships traveling across an ocean. Any suggestions on how I should go about acheiving the effect of water being parted by the boat as it travels through the water? Any help at all would be appreciated.

You could try a particle system with Hypervoxels applied to them using Sprites (it often help to creat a animation of a spray of water or more and use these a your Sprite Textures)

To top it off, use some displacement map to displace a water plane.
