View Full Version : Point Cloning in LW7.5 Layout?

I have a landscape and I want it filled with trees.

I have taken points from the landscape and saved them as different object. In LW5.5 I could use particlestorm or similar to clone obejcts to point locations in layout. How do I do that in LW7.5?

Using e.g. randomcloner isn't good enough, because I want to clone nulls as I use HD_instance to clone the trees. And I want to have thousands of them :D

Plugins? Lscripts? Any help greatly appreciated.

If you have HD instance why aren't you using that to clone everything in Layout??

HD_instance doesn't support point cloning. I need to clone the HD_instance affected NULLs to locations given by landscape vertexes. Otherwise I would have to manually place 2000-10000 trees in place. That is too hard for me.

I thought HD_Instance WAS point cloning...

I have a crappy tutorial in my tutorials section describing how to do proper placement of points on ANY given terrainsurface which WILL give you the opportunity to use HD_Instance if you'd like.

Thanks capt, but I found only the normal point_clone tutorial. It doesn't help things out in Layout as I need to do exactly the same you did in Easy Forest tutorial (which had a nice idea with the 2point polys)

I need to have points converted to nulls. I think I may have found a plug-in solution. Populate plug exports points as nulls or lights. Exactly what I need. I hope it's free :)

If it's the plugin by VertiTilities, don't bother, it's bundeled in a commercial plugin pack....

But this seems to be fairly doable in LScript...i'll see what i can come up with...

Hmmm...found this one by Anthony Ramirez...

Should work like a charm:D

HD Instance allows you to place clones directly on the points of an object. You don't need nulls unless you want exact control of each clone individually. It's all in the documentation :)
