Hi all

Awhile ago I asked about exporting and object from Maya into LW and was given the .obj and .fbx methods.....but I couldn't get the .fbx to work....

Now I want to bring all the Maya textures with it.....seems like the .fbx method would be best for this but I haven't been able to get even the object itself in to LW using this plug-in....

Anyone used the .fbx plug-in for this??....How did you go about it??

Thanks

In this case FBX is the wrong choice. Due to some problems with UV'S I think they do not officially support textures (it seems they are working on it, 'cos sometimes it works). Everything else works just fine for me. In your case use OBJ instead but make sure you do not have more than one UV set.

Hi Mylenium

OK that makes sense....no wonder I was having problems with .fbx!

Is it just the UV's that can be bought into LW or can the Maya shaders be bought in also?

Hi ya,

Well, you have to use Phong shaders only in Maya, preferably Phong E (the original Wavefront phong). All other shaders will turn black in LW. Also only use one texture per attribute (it must be a file texture, procedurals will go black/ blank) and do not map attributes where there is no equivalent in LW. However, you will still have to do a lot of tweaking in LW - the implementation is just too different.

Hey again

mmmm....I thought that might be the case! Not as easy as I hoped.

Thanks again
