Macromedia Director is a program used by some developers to create multimedia content and programs. These programs can be distributed by CD, DVD-ROM, and the Internet. Director uses Shockwave to distribute content on the Internet. Content in Shockwave is usually more compressed than CD content, and is viewed in the end users browser (users need the free Shockwave plugin to view content). As with all such programs, there are tradeoffs between compression, detail, and performance. Shockwave can display objects created in LightWave (and several other 3D programs). Because Director is a scripting application, it is possible to create projects that allow users to interact with 3D objects (games, demos, educational, etc.). Director has some "canned" scripts that can be applied to objects, but more complicated projects require learning "Lingo," Director's scripting language.

Macromedia maintains a showcase of Director projects at:

The showcase content changes from time to time. The "Ski3D" is one that I know includes 3D content.
