Layer- number for gradients

It would be cool to have a layer, that is not the previous layer as an input- parameter for a gradient . Say like I want it to be an alpha for the previous layer, but have the layer that is two layers below as input- parameter. So this could like "layer# 1,2,3..." as an input- parameter.

Yeah, that would be pretty useful. It also would eliminate the need for multiple instances of basically the same textures - now you often need to copy layers with identical settings just to get certain masking effects.
