View Full Version : Creating The Ivy Blade Effect in Lightwave

So for all of the people who have played Soul Calibur 1&2 and know about Ivy do you know how to recreate the same effect of her shifting ivy blade, and for those of you who don't know what what the sword looks like. In it's normal state it appers to be a normal sword, but it can break apart in to segments to become a whip sword combo. Any help would be greatly appreacaited.

There is a thread somewhere about this, I tried to find it and couldn't. Basically it explained a technique where you would use lag points/interia on the object and make is use a weight map to make the effect less or greater. So for a sword you would make some extra polys along the edge, make a weight map that would make the rest of the sword uneffected except for your extra polys. Then apply inertia(under deform in object properties) and there ya go. Probaly want to make a surface on the new polys that had additive transparency too. Try searching for animated ribbon or something under the boards for the example. Or I can post a example if you need it.
