This is my first model in lightwave. Before Lightwave I used Blender. I must say, I am very impressed with it. I need help on modeling a head though. I can get the basic shape but when it comes to the eyes, ears and nose details i starts looking horid. Any suggestions and thoughts are much appreciated

Yea! I too learned 3D in Blender 3D, very underrated peice of software.

I learned to model faces by watching some video tutorials. I dont know as I have any links any more but I'll see what I can find and post them as I find them.

Here is my favorut totorial site. Tons of facial modeling stuff here.

Took me a long time to make better models in LW than Blender and even still I somtimes go ahead and use Blender. They both basicly operate the same way when it comes to modeling, usually the hard part is just finding the LW version of the Blender tool. :)

VERY gutsy to create a human for your first lightwave model, im VERY impressed! :D
My first attempts were of boxes... extruded... and spheres..... extruded, i must have been so imaginative!

I think you're making great progress, but only one quick comment, i reckon there might be too many divisions in the torso of the body in the Y axis! But then thats my opinion and it depends on whether you plan to use sub-D's or plain polys!

Many people have used blender and i might have a go... my first piece of free software on a magazine was Imagine and Macromedia's Extreme 3D... they were very advanced for the time! Must have been nearly 8 years ago!

A GREAT start though, and welcome to lightwave!

Thanks guys,

The reason for the high divisions is i wanted a smooth natural deform when i animate him. This guy is gonna be the spy from the splinter Cell games. :D this guy came from a box too, execpt i loaded a pic of a male's proportions into the backdrop. :p

Ill keep you updated

whew! finally got some more work in. heres an update.

im not gonna have face details. he'll have a balaklava (ski mask) and the signature night vision goggles so that'll cover his features :p

on second thought ill model his face for the non-spy scenes

I really like these ninja spy characters, have been really tempted to do one myself.
I like the goggles, although a clearer pic would be nice. Looking quite nice overall, but in my opinion his legs are too short, makes him look a bit stubby. It could be the perspective in the image, but still, i would definitely make them more athletic and longer... he's gonna be jumping around quite a bit, so longer legs would be useful too! :D

I seem to be having problems with people responding to my posts too, kinda annoying really...

but keep up the work!

here's an update. modeled a pistol. not too much detail put into it because you wont be seeing many detailed shots of it but first here's two new shots of the character

One for anatomy sakes:

and one for the ominous goggles:

and then the pistol:

now i have to add some more doodads on him and then rig him.

<edit> sorry for the aliasing on the first pic forgot to turn anti aliasing on.</edit>

Not bad, dude!! :)
but I think the proportion is not correct, his torso is to big for his arms and legs
Check this out for ur problems: http://www.fineart.sk/index.php?s=8&cat=12
just download the pics and use it as a hint. Actually, u should download every single page of the book and read them, u then should be able to create "real" human model. ****, I love this site so much. :p

Keep up the work, don't worry, there's always sumbody to comment, it's just a matter of time :D

From lardbros: "I really like these ninja spy characters, have been really tempted to do one myself." -> can't agree with u more, man :o

the second one is better but I think u should make the yellow dots softer, and why there's no text  (don't put the block of text in the first one into it cuz it will ruin the style)

've just watched ur knife throw test, I'm not sure what was going on :( but I think u need to work more on speed and rhythm. i.e: it accelerates more when spinning and when being throw ;)
