I working on a precedural bump pattern for a model of a book. The bump effect I'm going for is sort of a canyon/mesa pattern. Imagine looking down into the Grand Canyon from above. Anyway in the bump channel I've combined the Crumple Procedural texture with a gradient on the top of the stack. My intent was to use the gradient to choke the edges in the crumple pattern and give it a squared off look.

I can't get anywhere near this though. In my mind the gradient should be able to control what portions of the Crumple texture appear as black and which portions appear as white and everything inbetween. This is true when I test it in the color channer, but not true in the bump channel. The gradient only makes the bump effect appear unnatural.

Has anyone else had difficulty using gradients with procedural bump maps in LW8?
