this isn't like everyone elses stuff, maybe simple in comparison but I need help.

I am working on a turntable and other music gadget themed images for a personal project and I wanted to know if there was a quick way to texture the side of the platter. This is my second attempt at this device and the first time I did it, I had to select each polygon inividually, name them and adjust the texture based on how well it fit...on some corners it stretched out the texture.

well anyway the first models platter was straight up and down and this models platter is on an angle sort of like a technics 1200. I was wondering if there was a less tedious way to texture this cylindrical set of polygons at once as opposed to creating a surface for each and tweaking..etc.

here is a pic of what I am talking about.

check out the button and the top of the turntable up close. I wanted to UV the button but I just made the image in PShop match the dimensions of the button. Lemme know what you think.

...also I got the texture from my laptop. I really wanted brushed metal but instead I got the "fake metal but really plastic" texture.

I need to start building my texture library!!!!

that I find it frustrating to be a member of. I think the members here are very talented and I would like to share in the wisdom of everyone, but when I post my problems I get nowhere.

Granted my model isn't a robot or some kind of character or architectural model, but I still wouldv'e appreciated a "well its coming along nicely" or "try this texture.." or "it totally sucks".

All I'm gonna do though is go through the tutorials like I have been doing and check out other forums. Maybe I will get better quicker without thinking that I can always come here and ask a question.

..The only reason I can make this statement is because I was a member under another name that I lost the password to, but anyway when I just got cracking with lightwave I posted some of my first models and I got some response but not much. Now, in my perception I am better and I learn new stuff all the time but the response here is hardly enthusiatic.

I did my first spline character head today. something that was previously impossible to me and I wonder if a post would be worth it.

this is the "works in progress" thread right???

you have three options as i see it

1. Use a cylindrical texture mapping
2. Use a gradient based on distance along the y axis.
3. Cut the sides into strips and texture each ring differently.

Can explain more if you want :D
