Now I've been working with my Amiga/Flyer 4000 for the last 4 years or so, and I do just fine making video projects, CG, etc. but I have never had to perform any software installations on the old beastie, and realize that I have no idea how to do so if I wanted to, and I do have some newer software that I've never installed on it for audio effects (I do not recall the name at the moment).

So, I know the Commodore machine is nothing like a PC, so how do you install software, or just plain files on the machine? It seems like a very basic DOS.

Truly, I have no idea what the process is. I have a functional floppy drive, and I understand that nobody was able to get the CD-ROM drive to work (though all my software is on floppy discs (like 40 some discs just for the Ver 4.2).

Well, enough said. Can you help me?

Most of the software available for the Amiga is on disk, and can be installed in Intuition's (the fancy name for the GUI) Workbench by inserting the disk, double-clicking on the disk icon, then double clicking on the installer file. If you are unsure about something, you can go through most of the installs in a 'fake' [do not install] mode before 'Install[ing] for Real' to check what the settings do.

Also, the CD Drive may need you to execute a program [usually called 'CD0' or 'CD1', and usually found in one of the hidden drawers S: or C:, sometimes L: (go to the workbench drive, choose icons show all, then open S, check for it, then C, then L; when you find it, just double click on it, and the cd drive should work until you reboot)]
