I get both commercials and long form programming encoded as MPEG-2 MP@ML

I'm not decoding the video but getting audio in the DDR. I suspect I need a diferent CODEC, but which one and where to install it???

Thanks !

Don

You can purchase and install the Elecard mpeg codec. It has worked for us in the past very well. Keep in mind that when you are using Mpeg files on the timeline or DDR... system response is not the same. MPEG files do not have very many keyframes in the video stream so VT can sometimes get lost if you are trying to rew or ffd through a clip. This reason is why we moved to the VP6 codec by on2.com for our VJLive applications. Great compression and easier keyframing.

Straight MPEG playback should be no issue with the correct codec.

Hey Jef,

I purchased the Elecard player and codec also, and it works, but recently Dr Cross posted this link and said installing this package from Elecard was all that was needed to play mpeg 2.

http://www.elecard.com/products/mpeg2decoder.shtml

So not sure if I/we bought something we didn't need or ...?

What's your take?

Give the above link a try Don, see if it works.

Thanks Guys,

I'll give it a spin tomorrow at work.

The more I use the VT3, the more I like it.

Where do I install codec's so the're useable?

I have VT3 in the C drive along with the usual cast, os etc. a second IDE drive has the DVE's and a SCSI array holds my video.

The elecard linked product appears to not have dirvers for XP.

Just had IT pull XP from another new box today and put w2k on it. The encoder card supported by XP from NCube is $15,000. But AdTec has one only for W2k for $6000. I've been trying to move things up to XP, but it appears there is still a place for the 2000.

Hey Don,

Forgetting for a second the confusion I caused above, I downloaded and purchased the Moonlight-Elecard MPEG Player v.2.3.1 from this link
http://www.elecard.com/products/mpeg2player.shtml
installed the player (on win XP machine) and was good to go.
I think it was 20 or 25 bucks. No worries about where the codec was installed in this case.

Hope that helped.

Jim et al,

I bought the elecard player and it works great. However, I'm still unable to play the same files in a DDR. I'm sure I'm missing something simple..............and I'm this close !

Any tips are appreciated.

Can you play the mpeg files in a VT Edit?

Can you play the mpeg files in Windows Media Player?

I'm going to have to check it tomorrow, I can't remember for sure, what I've tried. I'm thinking WMP could play it from the beginning. Of course they play in the Elecard player as well.

On the audio mixer, it loads up a channel for the MPEG player, it's seeing it. So I'm still just looking for a video signal (NTSC) that I can get to the switcher........

Thanks !

Some mpeg2's are a little funky on my timeline also. I usually drop them on the timeline then immediately render to a dv file for editing. Or you can also rt click on the file in the filebin choose, conver/rendert and convert it to dv or such there.

Some mpeg2's play fine for me, some I have to render, and unfortunately some not much at all.

I remember that happening once before also. Try reseting your configs. Run the OOPs I messed up my config file. Then do the auto 3rd party find thing. Then see if the mpegs will play.

Thanks Jef,

I've been sidetracked for a few days, but today I'll reset and see what's up.

I tried a couple mpeg clips in the timeline, still audio only. Rendered to Type 2 DV and same output.

On the other hand, TMPG is working great and my DVD burning tests are going well. Dual layer coming up.

Thanks again, I'll give it a try

Can you play the file with Elecard Player? If yes, then codec is OK. If not, please, report it to virt@elecard.net.ru, they will request the file and will do update for codec.
