okay, i've been working with this "image" for a long time now. This is my frist modell/render, and i am really proud of it! okay! it's from the book "inside Lightwave", and i can't really say that i've made it myself, just followed the tutorial in the book, but i have learned alot of new stuff!

Did you forget to turn on anti-aliasing or is it just poorly resized image?

Check in your Camera Properties panel. You'll see there you can choose different anti-aliasing levels. Read manual or Inside LW book for more info.

Yes, that is one of the drawbacks of AA... Welcome to the painful world of AA. ;)

:). I think you accidently turned on DOF. That's why it was rendering for so long. A little advice: first try small renders to preview if it looks good then go for a big one. Have fun! :)
