Odd and Even Fields

Does anyone know which field is the same as upper and lower? I am rendering out to individual frames then compiling them into an AVI that will end up as a DV file. I am using Vegas Video 4 and it has the "lower" field as the setting in the NTSC DV template. I am not if LW's even or odd setting is correct.
