Nicely modelled, textured and lit.
You could break up the repeating pattern on the floor/table to make the background a little more interesting.

I think the sword looks great, I'd like to get a closer look at the tsuba and etching on the blade. The scabbard, though, seems to lack detail. The ornamentation on it seems too large for the level of detail, at the size that it is I would expect it to be more detailed...jeez, how many times can I use the word DETAIL??? :D
I'll check out that link you provided.

Nice work, the contrast might be a tad too high. I like the floor texture.

The specular reflection on the "empty" scabbard seems a bit high, but for the rest, that's a great picture.

First of all, very nice image. Excellent model! Can you post a wireframe and/or give tips on modelling a katana? I started one a while back but was never very satisfied with it. Have been thinking about trying to use splines to do it.
Take a look at the image at the bottom of this thread. When I made it, I was going for the look of a katana scabbard. These things are laquered, so they should be very shiny, which mean the specular highlight should be smaller. Right now your surface looks a little like plastic. Also, use some gradients on the reflection channel for incident angle.

It's nice.. Do you have the wakizashi too? I like the saya you've made.. it's rounder than normal.. and you have some neat detail in that dragon. The blade has a good classical shape as if it's a well used blade.. the new masters tend to make a the blade wider than this.
Now you just have to do a Miyamoto Mushasi to wear them. :O)

I don't care what anyone says, especially that lame comment about the floor, sorry man, no offence, but this is stra8 awsome!
