Simple Mac Question: Fonts

Hey guys,

I'm a PC user that has very little experience in using a mac and I need some help. A friend of mine sent me a file that uses a font that I do not have. Now I know how to send fonts via PC, but neither of us know how to send the file from a Mac. She tried just sending the file by itself but when I try to install it, it says its damaged or corrupt.

Anyone know how to do this?
