View Full Version : Video Delay Issues

Well golly gee. I was watching the gymnastics competition at the Olympics last night, and much to my delight (relief), there was a gigantic plasma screen shown behind the girls on the balance beam. Guess what...they had almost a full second of delay between the live performer and the plasma screen. I guess our little 2-4 frame isssue isn't because we have inferior equipment. Maybe it's because the physics of running a video signal through two or three or four processing units adds delay to the video. I'm sure the Olympics has access to the $500,000 Sony digital HD switchers. The VT3 is slightly less costly, and evidently just as efficient.
I'm still a believer.

Actually the technology they have there is so sophisticated, what you were seeing on the plasma screen was actually real time. What we see on TV hasn't actually happened yet.

I noticed this also, it was driving me nuts, and I was not even at the event! I don't suppose this is going to make life any easier when someone complains about IMAG being "weird"... I have found that telling them "it's just your eyes" or "we do that on purpose so we can edit the pastors comments on the fly..." goes a lot further than a technical explination.

And don't forget to add in the Satellite's delay on top of that... (I wonder how far their streaming is out?).
