Hi there everyone!
As a new member of these forums I thought I'd post an image up and try and get some constructive crit on it..
Soooo .. feel free to give all you want - I'll try and take it on board.
Just don't crucify me pleeeeeeeese! :D
[Sarcasm Mode On]
Oh well that just has to be the worst render I have ever seen, not realistic at all, just look at that modelling, it's not in the least accurate!!!
[Sarcasm Mode Off]
:D
Very, very good! Love it!
If I was being _very_ picky I'd say the headlights aren't up to the same standard as the rest of the image, but I'm being ultra-critical here!!
Welcome to the forum too! :)

Would you believe they didn't accept this in the gallery?

Cheers Matt I appreciate your crit on the headlights - I could'nt work out how to make them better - any suggestions?
I'm glad to be a member and I hope to get some valuable info from time to time.
I hope to be posting some more renders soon.
Keep lookin' n' renderin'.:)

Well since you're talkig about being in the gallery, then I'll say a few things...
The lighting on the car doesn't match the environment for me.
The car paint just isn't quite there at the level of other top-notch car renders I've seen
That little rainbow thing on the headlight is distracting
The cracking texture is ok on the wall, but it's too fake for the concrete ground.
You're not far off the mark.
I just find it funny that you were initially afraid of a harsh crit and now you're ballsy enough to be surprised you weren't accepted into the gallery. How does one gain so much courage in so short a time?

Zarathustra -
I wasn't afraid of harsh crit in fact I expected it, and you are right the car is not brilliant however in my defence i would say that they have accepted other images of mine which are nowhere near as good as this one IMO.
I appreciate all crit and any suggestions as to how I can make the image better also I'm just starting to get a small understanding of texture mapping so I could do with more experimentation in this area.
I was trying to go for a car in an alley type feel with light from above guess it didn't work though?
Do you have any sample surfaces I could try on this model or suggestions as to what aspect of the surface may need to be changed?
The rainbow is distracting and is from the env map HDR I used to light the scene a simple rotation should eliminate this with luck.
I've been looking briefly for a decent road texture but have had no luck as yet.
also how can I make the joint between the wall and floor less hard?
thanx for your harshness and I'll try to be a little more meek.
P.S. I've attached a layout image as well.

Wow !!!!!
what a fantastic image, couple of little things that i noticed though
the alloy wheels look a little flat ie not shiny enough !! why not
add a spherical map on the ray traced reflection tab ??
Also the head lights look a little out of place
overall, brilliant image nice lighting
Keep it up !!

They probably didn't accept it in the gallery because it's already
full of car renders - I think they try to pick unique work to be
displayed - some good and some terrible ;)
What I like about this render is that it's not photo realistic. Though I'd loose the 2 hotspots or tone them down
quite a bit to help match the background lighting. I'm tired of seeing photo real attempts of cars and people - it's nice to see some work with a bit of style.
Nice ;)

Hey Lowly, great work on the car. As for crits on the car itself, I think the headlights need to show a bit more sparkle from the inside; you could also try mirroring your backdrop wall and have the light do a blurry reflection of it. I like the idea of it being in an alley, since it seems like everyone who ever does a car shows it either speeding around city streets or on a winding forest road. If you want to make it convincingly an alley, you're about halfway there.
Next up is to consider why it is an alley, and whose alley it is. Example: if it's behind a pawn shop, I'd expect to see weeds growing out of the cracks in the pavement, dead leaves in the corners, a beat-up trash barrel or soggy boxes, some broken bits of electronics and such. Since there's obviously room for a car there, put some old oil stains on the ground from all the cars of people running deals behind the shop at night. On the other hand, the backside of a hospital will be a bit cleaner, with marked bins and old tire marks from all the ambulances blowing past on the way to the ER.
So yeah! If you want to do something like this, I think it'll help your model stand out a lot to give it a bit of contrast with it's surroundings...
The proportions are out and the lighting is ****. Nah just messing with ya, looks great :D

Did you model the car or are you just texuring it and lighting it? The modeling is very nice.
As far as the gallery, aren't there already a few Audi's in there? Perhaps that is the reason, rather then it being a question of quality.
Make sure you read and follow the instructions before submitting an image to the Gallery. Make sure you supply everything as requested.

For future reference, any comment which is not a paraphrase of "that totally rocks" is not a harsh criticism nor is it bashing.
The whole point of a critique is to point out weaker areas of a piece and ideally, suggest ways to improve. If you call not being told you're perfect "harsh", you need to leave home and go out into the real world.
IMO you're not far off the mark, so relax. Besides, you're already in the gallery with other pieces, right? So what's the big deal?

Here's my crit - you parked that fine automobile too **** close to the wall! You're going to scratch the door!

To hell with that, I wouldn't park that car in a dark alley like that, especially with graffiti on the walls.

Great work on both the render and model. It's already mentioned that the reflection (headlight) and lightning doesn't match the environment that well, but.. I can't do any better ;)
Anyways, you wanted some constructive criticism; and so far I've only been able to put my finger on 1 thing: That bodyline on the fender needs some fixing :)
Great work anyhow

Thanx guys for all your crit and the comments about the alley and headlight have been duly noted.
I'm glad that some of you like the non-photorealistic rendering style and I feel better about the overall quality of the rendering.
I will try and correct these things and get another render up at a later stage.
I'm busy working on a few other projects at the moment so I'll get back to it when I can.
Thanx again.
