In my (limited) experience I've found that Viper is not very accurate in showing what your final render (especially lighting) will actually look like. It's useful to quickly get an idea of the changes you're making to surface attributes, but it's not a substitute for a real test render.

Judging by the screenshot you posted, I'd say you just need to work with your lighting using real test renders rather than Viper.

Or I could be assuming things wrongly... :)

..Although I have to admit I haven't had a Viper preview quite so far off from the final render as what you're showing in that shot.

I'm probably just confused...

I would also say your lighting solution is off.

Hi,

looks to me like the render is only showing signs of ambient lighting. I'd guess that you have shadows turned on and that something is getting in the way of your light.

nope shadows are off / and nothing is blocking the light

( I have 3 area lights )
hmm still wasn't able to solve it.

pretty strange

I'll rebuild the scene if thats the only way ... all the other things I render in (other) scenes are ok .
So it should be some kind of setting

Viper is only good for a few things, and lighting is definitely not one of them. You will have to do test renders with F9 if you want it to look right with F9. This goes for FPrime too ~

just learning and learning hard to "master" lightwave itself fist
