Does anyone happen to know what the rgb values are for chroma green. I did some research on the web and the only thing I could find were the rgb for some Roscoe chroma green paint (29,89, 36), but when I punch those in for my backdrop color, it comes out too dark. I realize that those values are for a reflective paint and I need the values for a luminescent light (computer monitor - tv). Anyone?

From my experience, there is no set colour for keying. Just that green is used as it most likely won't be on the subject you are filming. The screen I use at work is a dull lime green and a slightly pale blue.
It also depends on the NLE you will use to key in. Some only alows blue or green, others alow you to use any colours. The one I am using alse alows me to use diffrence keying (can use any background)

Trentonia, may I ask why you need a chromagreen color for your backdrop? if you really need it, just go with 100% green (000,255,000) but I cannot imagine a use for it. at least not a use wich one could do better with an alpha channel..

I was just putting it in so that the video folks could key it out. I am including the alpha channel, and recommending that they use it, but if they just have to key, they'll have the green.

They are filming off what you give them? ... I am curious what this is for and how it will turn out. Like Nakaleen said though, depending on your edit program, you should be able to use any color. It would be dumb not to use the alpha channels. What system are they using?

They use Media 100 and Final Cut Pro. Like I said, I've included an alpha channel and I'm urging them to use that. But, I did go ahead and make a chromakey green background. I know that we can use any color but the green seemed to be far enough away from the other colors in the logo.

Mmm.. I figured out something like that... I've had those situations multple times..
- I have to put a greenkey behind my animated logo??? You must be kidding!! You have to use the alpha channel! That's way better!
° What channel? Did you say geographic channel?
- Nevermind.. 1 greenkey on its way!
Be aware tough that the backdrop color can have a serious influence on your objects (reflection, radiosity, ...) but I figger you know that allready..

There was one interesing Intro I did for a local TV show. The background was a alpha channel. But one of the parts of the logo had a green key.
I did this so I could have 2 footage at once on the screen as well as the logo (the logo spun around then zoomed in so the green key filled up the screen.
I used this also to go from one scene to the next.
I'll dig out a image of it from the archives tomorrow.

Yeah, there are always ways to make use of green key, or any key in animation and video.. But the story I refer to are the ones of video-people not familiar with alpha channels. Because basically, they have a certain thinkpattern. " if you want to make something transparent" = "color/chroma/... key"
No means to offend anyone here.. :D
