View Full Version : UV Maps in Mirage
This is a cool feature in Mirage. I was just trying the demo today and discoverred that I could load UV maps from an object directly into Mirage. paint them and then save them out.
Within Mirage I can select a LWO and then it gives me a list of all the UV maps and displays my choice on screen.
Very cool, why haven't I heard about this before.

yep,
was a feature since aura 2.5....
didn't particularly impress me then either. it holds a subliminal advantage over just exporting the uvs and working in photoshop.
truly yawn worthy. if they want to brag, they better get on with 3d or psuedo 3d paint.

Never used Aura, from memory I think it's PC only?? Could be wrong, but anyway thanks for the useless comments.

if by "useless" you mean, "not the gullible type to be over-easily impressed with the fluffy hype that accompanies people trying to make a buck", you're welcome.
if you meant something nasty, indicating that you don't have the eyes to see valid points or the mind to tolerate a difference of opinion... well i have some prime beachfront property in iowa that i'd like to sell you.
i'm also auctioning the statue of liberty on ebay and if you act now, i'll throw in ellis island!
come on man... why would YOU take offense? really... don't be such a schill....
think for yourself and stop reading so many pamphlets.

Hey Jin what do you expect man, a kiss on the cheek and a bunch of roses??? Go and stomp in someone elses backyard. I'm surprised that you'd take offence to my comments.
For start it wasn't a feature that I read about in a marketing campaign. I stumbled across it myself while messing about with the demo. So all the assumptions your making about marketing hype are completely unfounded.
The very fact that another software company would support the LWO format is a positive thing in my book.
If you can't see the positive benifits of this feature, fine, not my problem. With this option I could edit 50 UV maps and never once have to open Lightwave. Sure you can open Lightwave and export it out, but if you don't need to, why would you want to? It's tiny little thing called "productivity". It's the reason we have things like shortcut keys. Pure marketing fluff again right??

sounds like you guys are a little stressed out or summat..
too much coffee?
not enough playtime?
i mean come on be nice, jin i love you man you is a hero of mine
I just want you to feel ok.
one day the subdiv distortion issue wiil be nailed we will celebrate and move on.
And as for uv s in Mirage ..it is a nice feature kinda gives you an optional approach, but it aint deeppaint or bodypaint, no 3dview, but hey so what right?,..Mirage is kinda sexy in its own way, I like to paint colour maps for base textures in there, with animations on, linked to a tv monitor.
yknow i just want people to relax and feel ok;)

hey umstitch,
thanks for being the peacemaker... they do say they will be blessed don't they?
anyhoo, no worries mate. i'm not at all upset. just getting my own back when it seems like i am being insulted needlessly.
alas, turning the other cheek just ain't a skill that i've developed....
anyhoo, thanks for the kind words but i'm sure everyone here (including me) will agree that you should find a more worthy hero! :)
cheers,
jin

Im sure if you two would of had visual contact this misunderstanding would never of happened...
Its all about communication - and on here throw in tons of understanding to boot!
For what it matters, Riki, Jin - I've always enjoyed reading both of your posts... Both of you have lots of online personality... If we were all together I'd buy you both a Corona or whatever your favorite drink is.. :)
peace...

Back on point:
This little piece within Mirage does have it's own magic but you have to first accept the magic that is Mirage. The uv thing works a treat when working uvs; and if you have a stable machine (read: the hub doesn't make you dislike it) then you can really correct and spiff up a uv.
Mirage has some great tools that are getting better and better. Never know: a 3D panel with rotating model might be in our futures. chuckle
Hi UnCommonGrafx, do you mean that Mirage can hook into the Hub? or that you can see realtime updates to your UVs when changed in Mirage? Can you give a bit more info?

Actually, I mean working on the uvs in modeler while running layout and fprime.
Aura worked with the hub, and it says Mirage is hooked into the hub, but I'm not gonna say that the link is alive today.
Sorry for the confusion.
