Here is a basketball court that i have been working on for an animation that i have planed for my reel. I am kind of stuck on the net for the rim. Anyone have any suggestions on how to create a net. I am not looking for chains though. Any advice on what to add/correct would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Depends on what your plans are. I think a chain net would be easier then a string net since you don't have to worry about the knots. I'd just build it and attach it. Now if you're going to animate it, then that's more headaches, dependent on how close you get.

Probably not very usefull.. but if you could be bothered making a net as a model... tube type thing... then divide it and triple it... delete the faces and convert it to 2-point polys...
You'ld end with a mesh of lines.. that you can animate with motion designer... the second reason for making it as a mesh is you could use hypervoxels to simulate knots... I used this ages ago on a tank anim where a tank drive over a fence and some wireing.
but it is a lil long winded.
Environment looks gr8 though :)

Hello:
Hybrid:
Thanks i will give a transparency map a shot.
Zarathustra:
I did realize that a chain net would be infinately easier to make however I do want to be able to animate it at a fairly close distance. So i was hoping for some suggestion on how to do a convincing cloth net. I seem to remember that someone on this board having done this in the past with a very convincing result. Now if i could just remember who.....
Sculley:
Thanks for the suggestion. I will definatley have to play around with md and running the simulation. I will post my results when I am done. Thanks for the compliment on the environment. I feel pretty good about the level of detail that it is at right now. I am not trying to make the environmet the focal point as the animation will be much more improtant in the end. Im glad you like it though.
Thanks everyone for their comments and suggestions. Now its off to do the texturing.
If anyone has any further ideas/suggestison on how to make a net or help with the overall feel of the render please post.
It also occured to me that i have been having problems with the anti alaising. I have to set my render resolution to 2x the size of the final frame size with antialias set to medium with adaptive sampling on. If you notice in the image above the uppermost windows with the wood siding are aliased verry badly. Any suggestions on how to get better antialiasing out of my render?

I read your post too quick. I thought you wanted chains. My mistake.
Yeah, I remember the net post. Do a search. I couldn't remember if it was here or CGTalk.
You could use dynamics but I'd probably just do bones and/or morphs.
Looks good, the camera angle is a bit extreame though.

If I were making a net, I would make one tube. Then I would create a cylindrical UV map of the tube. After the UV is made, I would bend it. Then duplicate it around.
