I am trying to make a firework.

I have the firework modeled and set up, but i am having trouble making it "look" like a firework...i cant find a preset anywhere for a firework...so i have used a sparkle type of preset, but i am at a total loss...does anyone know how to make a legitmate firework or at least know a type of preset i could use?

thanks

If you look in the manual, you'll see you want to use the parent emitter. I forget how it works but it will give you firework like effects.

I looked up particlefx...it does say you can use it to create fireworks. but i didnt find anything on parenting emmitters...how can I make the particles sparkly? and how can i get that trail of smoke at the end? envelopes? adding a particle emiiter to the particles i already have? can you even do that?

thanks!

The key to good PFX trails is child/parent emitters.

Basically, you have a parent, it makes the main Star, then you have a child emitter, that makes the trail.

The key there is to not have any motion, have a lifespan of only a few frames, and gradients to make them fade out.

Get it? So the children basically leave a trail that doesn’t move in 3D space and is only ‘lit’ for a few seconds controlled by a Particle Age gradient.

Throw in some winds, and you’ve got the swirling, smoky faded dissolve….

For the glow, simply save out the main Star .pfx and load it into a clone, that uses a sprite with no Hypertexture to create a glowing sphere in the same motion as the Star…use gradients to control the size and or dissolve…

Good luck!
:D

Watch the mini tutorial here (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=1320024#post1320024) ...itll give you an idea of how to setup the parent/child emitters.

The way i've always created sparkly particles is to make them nearly 100% luminous and use whatever colour or gradient you want.... then here's the clever bit!

If you make a small black and white image map of lots of small squares randomly black or white and use this as the alpha map, (or on the dissolve of the particles) on your hypervoxels the particles flicker gently as they move about.... looks ace too!!!

Could also add some post effect glow to the mix to make them have a haloed glow....nice!

Hope that helps a bit!
