If you dont mind, could you please let me know what slot you have your video toaster installed and if you have any other cards (like a firewire / soundcard) what slot they are using.

Thanks

On my P4DC6+ system I have:

PCI-32 Slot 1 Video Toaster (LAN is disabled, so this slot therefore shares hardware interrupts with NOTHING.)

PCI-32 Slot 2 TI-Chipset firewire card (AC97 audio is disabled, so this slot therefore shares hardware interrupts with nothing in use.)

PCI-32 Slot 3 Empty (This slot shares hardware interrupts with the PCI-64 controller, which is what the SCSI controller is on, so this should be empty if you are using the on-board SCSI, if possible.)

PCI-32 Slot 4 ATA/133 controller (Shares nicely with USB hardware interrupt.)

See page 3-5 in the manual for all this info.

Note that these are actually "hardware interrupts", though they call them IRQs in the book. IRQs, in the Windows sense, are soft settings and not true hardware interrupts, hence Windows actual good ability of dynamically assigning and reassigning them.

PCI-64 #1 Nothing
PCI-64 #2 Nothing
PCI-32 #1 SDI
PCI-32 #2 VT
PCI-32 #3 Firewire
PCI-32 #4 Nothing

Checking the book, looks like Firewire in Slot 4 may be better like Eugene said, but I have had mine in 3 since day one.

The SDI card doen't seem to use an Interupt (not listed in Device Manager), so must be integrated into VT3 except for power from PCI.

Just moved the Firewire to Slot 4 with no problems. Wonder if it makes a difference in performance with VT (99% Editing)?

I have the VT board in 2 because that is where Safe Harbor, who built this system, recommended it to be. I do use LAN.

AFAIK, the SDI card attaches to the movie-2 bus on the VT card, so yeah, at most power from the PCI slot, nothing more.

As for your original configuration, if it works, don't worry. :)

Thank you for taking the time to post the location of the VT2.

Due to work it was not posible for me to post earlier.

I have not used my VT2 too much and have had an issue with loosing sound off and on all of the sudden. Sometimes a reboot fixes it, other times removing/installing the driver fixes the problem.

Looking at the slots I see that I installed the VT2 in slot 1 and do have LAN enabled. I wonder if that is the solution to my problem :) I will let you know..

Does any of you use an additional sound card in this mboard? if so which one?

I plan to move VT2 to PCI-32 2 and install my new firewire card in PCI-32 4 as suggested.

moving VT2 from pci32 #1 to slot 2 had no effect apparently.

still get cracking sound , pops that tells me the sound is working and if there is silence i know there is no sound at all.
