Here's an African mask i'm working on...after spending hours on findign the best method of unwelding this thing for proper UV mapping, I realize the resolution of my wood texture is too small :( I'm looking for a dark polished wood surface...I've searched on google.com, Mayang.com & some other site...if anyone knows of a good site that has some nice wood textures please drop a line.

Errr. For doing UV's I use the 'unweld' option, gives you a handle on all the points, you can then mess with the UV and merge points when done.
What version of Lightwave are you using? (opps - me spies 7.5 in the title bar)
Models looking good though - a nice dark wood texture will be neat!

I have some African masks and from the looks of your reference that one looks like it's coated with a black tar. The masks I have that are like that don't really look like wood except for a slight grain showing through the tar. I would use a slight wood bump and create the rest of the surface as a procedural. The tar isn't too shiny, the specular is pretty low and diffused.
