Will it ever work ?

I received LW 8 last friday and was impressed
by the new features and funktions I've found.

The only critic: Why there still is the "neverending story"
of the not working F12 and opening modeler from the
layout-window ? Any hint to solve that problem,
that's in Lightwave since version 5 ?

Because of system-speed and hardware-detection,
I still use Windows 2000. Can this be the reason ?

Some other questions:

How can I install/add old plugins like the complete
plugin-collection from DOSCH (DirtyUp...) or other
things from additional firms ?

How can I make the hub work together with my firewall ?
(Have to turn the firewall off to work in Lightwave !)

Does LW 8 support Athlon64-technology and with what
processor LW 8 will work best/fastest ?

I hope you can help with some answers.

LW 8 is still a great step into the right direction !
Keep your good work up and implement all things,
modern 3D-software includes today !

Best regards,

Ingo, Germany

Press alt-F11 to bring up the plugin panel to add plugins. Some really old ones may not be compatible with 6 upwards but most if not all 6 plugins should be functional...

Works fine here, Windows 2000 SP4.
So i guess it's your firewall...?
Think someone suggested that when the Hub doesn't find Layout or Modeler you should start the Hub first and then Layout and Modeler, and then it should remember the program paths and is able to launch both. Are both listed correctly in the hub's "Launch Process" list?

First Windows has to before LW can ;)
So no, LW still consists of "plain old" Win32 binaries...

What works for me is:
1. Turn off firewall
2. Run Layout from icon
3. Use hub to run Modeller
4. Turn on firewall
F12 and/or sceen buttons to switch applications work fine.

Starting the Hub at first, really worked ! :)

Now I can start Layout directly, without hub, too,
and F12 or hitting the "modeler"-icon opens the rest !

The paths seem to be stored in hub-configuration, now.

Thanks for this one !

Will check the plugin-thing later.

Another question:

I will build-up to 1,5 GB RAM, soon and want to know,
what size of segment-memory should work best ?

2/3rd or half of complete physical memory ? Or else ?

I've heard from people running 8.0 that there is a problem with XP SP2 (with the firewall active) where Layout will start up, but the Hub startup will be delayed for a period of time longer than Layout waits to see the hub. As such, you get no hub connection in place.

Their current approach is to only launch the hub directly. They then launch Modeler and Layout from the context menu *shrug*

Not being an 8.x user at this point in time, I have no direct experience, but thought it would help.
