I seem to remember a post in the old forums a year ago or so where a guy posted some really neat space shots in Lightwave.

What I noticed taht was really neat was the different lens flares he had in the shots.

He said he was using a plug in called Real lens flares or extreme lens flares or something.

Anyone know about these or other custom lens flare plug ins?

probably photoshop plug ins.

oh, silly me.

I didn't even consider that heh.

They looked like they would animate really neat but the reality is that they are probably only still frame usable.

Thanks, also anyone who knows of any good 3rd party flare plug ins please post here.

The only really good and comercially available tool that would make sense is Knoll Light Factory. It is a plugin for compositing packages such as After Effects etc. Real Lens Flare is a plugin for MAX. However if you take the time and patience you can get good flares in LW, too (Still not as good as Knoll ;) ). It's just a shame you cannot save your settings to presets and always have to keep a scene file.

Just wanted to add that a few years ago there was Genesis VFX from Positron but it was never developed beyond v. 1.3. I suppose they could not sell enough copies of it and Positron had troubel at that time anyway - they went dowwn the drain. The quality was good but it was rather slow.

Unless you count Genesis 2.0 :)

Also.. the author of Genesis 1.x now works for Newtek developing the Toaster, Dr. Andrew Cross.

Genesis 2? Wasn't that Photoshop only?

Genesis was one of the programs I used to see.

Is it a filter or a Lightwave plug in?

it used to be done by http://www.futurefantastic.com for Lightwave. I don't know how far they got with it though.

The current site isn't really "Future Fantastic", it seems to be "Pixel Imaging"

I'd privately hoped that Andrew might have been pressed into service to put something similar into LW, but I guess the Toaster is keeping him too busy :D
