Displacement Maps with UV data, without being restricted to one axis. Typically one needs to have three layers for a displacement on x,y,z. This typically doesn't look quite right. So it would be easier and powerful to use UV data on all three axises at the same time.

I can agree on that for the most part. However it would only make sense if they also give us adaptive (render time) tesselation/ sub pixel displacement.

use "normal displacement" under object>deform>add displacement
