Greetings,

We just recieved our copy of LW8. Before I install I wanted to ask if anyone has run into any issues or 'gotchas'. We have VT3 on the system on which LW8 would be installed. Any insights or hints that may prevent potential problems would be greatly appreciated.

No gotchas other than the fact that LightWave [8] doesn't come with the lw6_vt.p plugin so if you want to use the VT[3] as a frame buffer you'll have to copy and add it from your 'Toaster LightWave 7.5c Input/Output plugins.

Also, [8] has changed the names of the config files which are now all appended "8" - LW8.cfg, LWEXT8.cfg etc. - this is important to know if you're using Aura's LightWave Viewer 'cause you'll have to select LW8.cfg instead of the old LW3.cfg file.

7.5c will happily run still with [8] installed so get that sucka on there :D

Hi Todd,
Nope. No probs I've seen. Can you imagine if it didn't work with VT??

Chuckling.... IF there are problems you'll see me screaming around here like a madman made into a little girl!!!

hehe

OT: LW8 looks really nice.

Oh, and look at this link:

Just getting around to installing 8 myself. Looks very nice, but any chance that the well-known RTV saving bugs have been squashed?

Since it didn't seem to know what a VT or RTV was right after installation, and I'm now copying (buggy?) plugins over, my guess is no. :(

Hi Aegis,

I'm still running LW7.5c on my VT3 system, but I didn't know I could use VT3 as a LW viewer. How is that set up and activated?

Thanks,

TW

****dee Tom!! You are behind. It's been that way since vt 1.

I'll look around but somewhere around here someone posted all the files you need in the lw area. hold on...

Yeah, look at a post of mine above; click the url and do as they say.

It's heller to see a lw render on your output monitor. And it works with all the post processes you can do on a render in the FP image viewer.

Heh, well, just 'cause I have it doesn't mean I know how to use it.

I found the plug-in in the folder, and it shows up under various names in the edit plug-ins list. But LightWave doesn't show up in the VT3 Switcher. How is it activated?

Thanks!

TW

FP Image Viewer.

Do an f9 then turn on the switchet. After that, send to switcher, then turn on Auto Send. Render to your hearts delight with your vt3 as an additional previewer.

Make sure you play with the black and white points of a rendered image. It's quite ... fulfilling to watch it LIVE and REALTIME as it happens.

I am considering buying FPrime, does anyone know if Fprime's buffer display will switch to the VT3 as well??

Comments? Where is that Worely fellow?
