View Full Version : Making panels to a spacecraft

Hello everyone

I am building a spacecraft. I tried to build panels straight to the surface (with smooth shift) but then I cannot use subpatch. I also tried subpatch weighting but that doesn't seem to be the right way... I was thinking of using bump map but I won't give up!
Does anyone have any suggestion how to make it happen?

*Here's an image of the craft. I want panels to be much like the wireframe (beveled from the surface) but not evenly spread.

Hi,

unless you're planning on getting pretty close up using a bump map on your texture should be enough.

If you want to model the detail, try keeping the subpatch mesh as it is and adding extra panels that poke out through it.

A simple way :)
I was just thinking if there was a trick in LW to do this...

If you do this a lot, IFW2 textures does great panels, with loads of options, including iregular patterns, rivets, you name it.

Loads of presets too, so easy to use.

A happy customer.
