Story on the Creative Mac website about Apple's new products, released last week at the NAB convention. (4 pages)

Apple is becoming a really dominant player in the broadcast TV industry. Their new products will make them even stronger.
Other companies, especially Avid, will be hit hard, as Apple now owns the broadcast video editing market.

I don't see Apple making many inroads into UK TV, or European TV for that matter. The BBC is dominated by PCs, running Avid Media Composer or Symphony, some FAST systems and Quantel products. It doesn't even use Quicktime for its video downloads...
I love your enthusiasm Beam, but not your sweeping generalisations

all of the studios here use DigiBeta or BetaSP and with out tons of extras FinalCut dosnt do beta. At techTV we will shoot random location stuff on an XL one but most of the stuff we do is DVCAM or higher.

Not true at all. With an the IO, you can effectively scale to any standard def signal, uncompressed, using only firewire. You just need a good hard drive (which an avid would need anyway). All told, it's a hell of a lot less expensive (and a more diverse workstation) than a media composer. We just got one at work, and it kicks.

The AJA IO has multiple analog interfaces and a deck controller.

Sony makes good DV decks. Make sure it's able to handle more advanced codecs like 24P. You'll thank yourself later.
