I'm working with a landscape model of a large terrain and wanted to create weight maps in modeler that I could later use to assign images too. However, I'm a little confused as to how to go about using an image map and assign it to a weight map and then set up the necessary parameters in the gradient to fade the image map out (for example in areas where the weight map has low values).
I know how to do this with a single color. Use the Texture editor, then select gradient, use my weight map as a parameter, and then adjust the values in the gradient to make the color appear on the object in lesser or greater amounts. I can then use the same weight map, or additional weight maps to blend various colors (and control the transition between colors.) However, how can I do the same thing with various images? Does what I am saying make sense?
For example. Let's say I have my base color of brown. I create one weight map over the entire surface of the terrain (call it "mountain" weight map) and assign it a high resolution image map. Then I create another weight map following the contours of the valley, with less weight in the transition between the valley and the mountains. I want to assign to this "valley" weight map another image that will then transition smoothly into the adjoining "mountain" weight map. Basically, I'm trying to use the fine control of the vertex based weight map values to fade out of one image layer into another. There must be some way to do this (or perhaps a better way), but I just can't seem to find the right order of Alpha/Normal layers and perhaps I'm missing some other fundamental concept here.
Any ideas?
