ATI Radeon128 ddr is ok for LW?

Hello, I need some help on a graphic board here.
I got a AtI radeon 128 ddr on my computer and i noticed that it is slower than the one i had, a Geforce 32 meg, It have some tric in the configuration of the board or I need update my open gl software?
How LW deal with graphic boards?
I have a Dell Dimension 4100 700MHs with 512mb ram and two HDs
Please some tips

I've never had any luck with ATI and LW.
I have switched all compys to Nvidia based chipset cards.

I never could figure out the ATI settings, and tried every driver (from newest to oldest that would work) and couldn't get them to work right.

Thanks prospector I had the same idea and never worked I just set back my older graphic board a NVIDIA 32 Mhs it works just fine but with sub patch turned to 3 in lightwave:D
