Recently, when looking thru the bios settings for our Supermicro P4DCE+ mobo, noticed that the setting for hyperthreading is set to disabled. Should it be this way, or should I enable it.

This board is the same as the P4DC6+, sans the onboard SCSI.

Suggestions?

Depends what OS you are running.

If you are running Windows 2000, then do NOT enable hyperthreading, or you will make your system see TWO virtual CPUs on CPU1 and not see CPU2 at all.

Windows XP fully supports hyperthreading. So if you are running Windows XP you could enable hyperthreading and your system would see FOUR virtual processors.

But, it's up to you. The Toaster simply does not gain from using hyperthreading. It is already so threaded there isn't free CPU time being wasted.

OTOH, some other applications do benefit from HT.

Acutally, the system will see the 1st logical CPU on each Physical CPU.

(the performance impact is less this way)

But Yes, Dual CPU and Win2K -> HT should be off.

What about a dual processor machine with two
pentium 4's with hyperthreading?

Will this work?

No such thing as a dual P4, but if mean dual Xeon, then it'll work find if you are running XP. If you are running Win2K, then you'll need to disable hyperthreading.
