Say you have a net with 4 ball weights at each corner and you wanted to "throw" the net and have it wrap around a object with the 4 balls making it do so, can this be done with MD? In other words is there a way to parent the groups to nulls and animate them with those?

so no one knows of a way to parent polygon part groups to nulls or anything similar that would achieve this effect?

I tried this out the other day with limited success.

I could get the net with the corner weights to work but was unable to get the balls to stay on the corners and interact the way you would like.

Ive just had a thought now I think about it again....if you model the balls into the mesh and give them a rubber setting with no squash or stretch settings...add a weight of 20...and hold structure....it could work.

Have you had any success with it???

I've had some succes, but I still don't have the control. I've got it to the point there the web will fly back and forward, but getting the edges to interact with the object I haven't gotten yet. i can't believe there is no way to parent groups to nulls, i REALLY hope I'm just missing something.....

Anyone use bones with weight maps?
Have a look at the file below...

that's pretty cool! But the balls definatly don't react to the object that well, they don't have the dynamics of the cloth. You can tell which looks natural and which doesn't......

It was only an example scene to show you a way of doing it. Did you expect me to do the whole thing? ;)

YEA!:) Then I wouldn't have to figure it out!:) Kidding, no really, i like what you did, i just want to try and get those little balls to react with the cloth....i think i have a lead on it, with that post talking about ramping the weight up on the balls and making them part of the mesh......really this is just kind of a test to figure out MD well...
